When you hear the phrase “Hip-Hop”, music, dancing, rapping often come to mind. More specifically, hip hop is a combination of graffiti, break dancing, djing and mcing (also known as rapping), that creates a lifestyle with its own language, style of dress, music and mind set that’s continuously evolving.
According to Webster’s dictionary, culture is defined as “the concepts, habits, skills, arts, instruments, institutions, etc. ” One artist defined Hip-Hop as “a set of expressions in vocalization, instrumentation, dancing and the visual arts.
Hip-hop’s issues that are commonly addressed within the media are misogyny, violence and crime.
These issues raises questions about the neo-capitalist ideals within the industry; the vernacular and decorum of hip-hop; gender and racial paradigms, as well as whether hip-hop should be liable/accused/blamed for influencing violence or crime culture.
Some forms such as Ballet, Modern and Jazz require years of training as the dancer tries to perfect the many techniques involved.
