The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2016 is now open for entries.The Royal Commonwealth Society, RCS, has a rich history of nurturing the creative talents of young people around the Commonwealth.Open to all Commonwealth citizens aged 18 and under, the Essay Competition offers young people the opportunity to make their voice heard on a global platform and engage with issues important to them.Every year, judges are impressed with the extremely high standard of entry as participants compete with their peers from every corner of the Commonwealth.In Mauritius, 112 participants entered the competition in 2013.The judges also selected a number of excellent Gold and Silver entries from both the Junior and Senior Categories to receive special commendations. Mrs Shari Villarosa, Ambassador of the United States of America.In 2015, the contest was renamed ‘The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition’, in honour of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s role as both Head of the Commonwealth and Patron of the Royal Commonwealth Society.Open to all Commonwealth citizens aged under 18, our essay competition offers young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to make their voices heard on a global platform, to engage with issues important to them and to express their aspirations for the future.The ESU, in collaboration with Barclays Bank Mauritius Limited, organised a prize-award ceremony on Friday 28 The above students received cash prizes offered to them by Mr Cyril Wong Sun Thiong, representing Barclays Bank Mauritius Limited. Mr Prem Burton, President of the English-Speaking Union, was delighted to see the continued interest of our young students in this annual competition and hopes that 2014 will see a growing number of participation from Mauritian students. As athletes gather in Glasgow for the 2014 Commonwealth Games, team spirit will be on display both within and between nations.They also received prizes from Mr Prem Burton, President of the English-Speaking Union, H. Young writers are encouraged to explore this theme in fun, academic, witty, and most of all creative ways!
